HEY! It’s 2020! 2019 was a whirlwind of a year, and I’m so excited to see what 2020 will bring. I remember planning out my goals when I first started this business in 2011 (because you know your Type A girl is listing out her 1, 3, 5, 9, and 10 year goals), and I remember writing “2020” on my goal sheet and thinking…no way I’m going to get to grow a business that will be around that long. But here we are! I started off this year feeling really lucky that I’ve been blessed with such great clients who have supported me. And what better way to start a new year off than with one of my epic year end WRAP UP posts!! It’s always such a positive experience to sit down and go back through the year’s work, and this year is no different! In 2019, I photographed weddings in Hillsboro and all over the west side of Portland, and I loved being able to work so close to home! Today I’m sharing my favorite wedding moments–getting ready, ceremonies, details, and special dances–so let’s get down to it!
One of my goals in 2019 was to improve the way I photograph bridal details on a wedding day, and I am so happy with the way each wedding’s details photos came together. I think it just sets the tone for the day when I have fifteen minutes before the action starts to just focus on the details that the bride chose to surround herself with on her wedding day. These are also perfect photos for rounding out an album!
Getting Ready Photos
I love the energy at this point in the day! I normally stick to delivering mainly color photos because I obviously love bright and light and colorful photos, but as the bride is getting ready, I’ve been loving also delivering some quiet black and whites. Those moments of peace in the midst of all that anticipation is my favorite, and I think black and white showcases that best!
PS, I saw quite a few dresses that had a lace up back and I have to say I DIG THIS TREND! It’s classic and helps extend that “getting in your dress” moment for photos.
And that moment when your best friend sees you in your wedding dress for the first time is the BEST:
Okay, let’s get some COLOR back here! This incredible wedding at Loch Lolly Tree Farm in North Plains is the perfect place to get that color…take a look at that breathtaking lake at the ceremony site! And as far as ceremony photos go, the recessional when the bride and groom are feeling incredible because they just got MARRIED is my favorite!
…but the way the bride and groom look at each other during vows is up there, too.
Also, I totally love how my couples with outdoor ceremonies all made sure to BACKLIGHT their ceremony! It makes such a huge difference when the sun is behind your heads and filtering through trees and you have wide open space in front of you…that’s a recipe for glowy light! McMenamins Cornelius Pass has some totally yummy light next to their Octagonal Barn:
And at this church wedding in Verboort, I adored this sweet moment:
Portrait time is one of my FAVORITE parts of the day because I get to do my thing! We have some fun with the bridal party group photos before moving in to the bride and groom portraits. This church wedding was on a SUPER chilly, windy day, but these ladies ROCKED it!
And so did the guys, of course!
Do I have the most incredibly beautiful couples or what?? I love how they were all so open and ready to laugh with their new husband or wife, how they were ready to have quiet moments in forests and fields, and honestly I am just so, so grateful to each of them!
I know this is the LONGEST POST EVER but I just had too many favorites from this season to share! I have my favorite moments at receptions too–especially the special dances! It is always, ALWAYS worth it to have not just a first dance, but a dance with your father, grandfather, favorite aunt…these moments always result in favorite photos.
Ohhhh this moment! When the groom surprised his mama with a special song and they both cried. Such a sweet moment, and you better believe this boy mom here was crying behind the camera too!
LOVED this mama son dance! They win the award for most fun parent dance ever!
Kaitlin and Tylor helped with this garden at a family friend’s property for weeks before their wedding, so it was so special to include that beauty in their reception photos!
PHEW! Did you make it all the way through this post? 2019 was truly an incredible year and it was such an honor to capture these photos!
