Forest and Field Family Photo Session at Cooper Mountain Nature Park | Hillsboro Family Photographer
When one of my favorite families came back to me for this year's fall photos, we decided to try the same location we'd shot at before (see it here!). We wanted to make sure it looked different enough, but still had the field that they loved. We used the beautiful field area at Cooper Mountain Nature Park, and then also ventured into the forest for the last half of the session. I loved the variety we were able to get here, and I especially loved all the fall vibes with their adorable mustard + plaid outfits!
It's October and wedding season is slowing down, which means I have a chance to blog some of the fabulous things I've been up to these last few months! First up is this totally gorgeous engagement session from early August. Hailey and Jeremy planned a small courthouse wedding, and wanted to have some portraits done at Jenkins Estate first!
This sweet family was so, so patient for their session! Somehow, even though we kept scheduling our Cooper Mountain Nature Park session for mid-June evenings, we kept getting rained out! And not just a little rained out...RAINED out! Thunder and lightning storms in the forecast? I'll pass on that hilltop session, thanks.
So when our third try at scheduling rolled around and it was sunny, we were THRILLED! Bring on the wildflowers and the ring around the rosie games, it's a family photo session at the park in summertime!
It's been a season of extended family sessions this month! I think there's no better time to book a portrait session for your family than when your in-laws or parents come to town! I know I treasure photos of me as a child with my grandparents, and I think it's such a wonderful gift to give your own kids.
I met this sweet family (who you may remember from their fabulous fall session here) in Tigard at Summerlake Park for their session this week. The girls picked flowers and brought their matching unicorn stuffed toys along for the adventure!
Next up as part of my location series, where I showcase my very favorite locations for portrait sessions--Rood Bridge Park!! This park was a favorite of mine when we first moved up here and my son was a baby, because there are large paved paths that go in a big loop, so it was perfect for long stroller walks! After I shot a vow renewal at the River House here in 2015, I started shooting portrait sessions here and now I love shooting here! There are some beautiful stone accents through the whole park, plus a tiny little forest with a stream running through it that gets the MOST magical light ever. It's also one of my favorite locations for clients in Hillsboro who are looking to stick close to home--it's just on the south edge of Hillsboro near Hillsboro High School and Meriwether Golf Club. It's a perfect option if you're looking for a forest location on the west side without having to go in to Forest Park! Fewer crowds, shorter drive, and the trees and light are just as beautiful!
I love these stone steps! And the park is a favorite for dog-owners because it's so large with plenty of room to walk!
If you happen to be there in late summer, there's a good chance we'll be able to find some tall grass to shoot in, which you KNOW is my favorite!

Extended family sessions are so fun! A lot of times, I think families really only get professional photos of the WHOLE family---grandma, grandpa, aunts, uncles, grandkids, everyone--at weddings. Which is awesome and obviously something I enjoy, BUT--there's a whole lot of life that happens before and after weddings! There's nothing better than photos like these to go up on the walls while your kids are growing up!
These two kids? GOT A PUPPY the day before our session!! And brought her to be in some of the photos!! Is that the most adorable puppy ever?? She's so SMALL and fluffy!!!!
It's been a while since I shot at Rood Bridge Park! Every time I go back, I remember how totally magical it is, and this family session last week was no different. It had been pretty hot all day, but then as I climbed the little hill into the forest, the most perfect, flowy-hair breeze kicked in and stayed for the whole session! Then this sweet little family showed up ready to explore and have fun! The result: glowing sunset photos with lots of sister giggles, tickle fights, and adventure!
If you've been following the blog for a while, you know that Cooper Mountain Nature Park in Aloha is one of my very favorite places to shoot at: there's tall grass, views of the valley, and it gets the very BEST sunset light! I was so thrilled Angela and Steven chose that location for their engagement session last weekend!
This engagement session has been in the works for a while, and I'm so happy to finally share it today! I've been chatting with Lauren and Corey since the fall about their engagement session, and we went from Christmas tree farm to dog park to a forest session and my goodness I am SO GLAD we ended up where we did!! We had a bright, sunny spring day to hike some trails through the forest above Portland and it was amazing! They brought their two puppies and we all hiked around and found beautiful parts of the forest to explore and it felt totally them. I couldn't imagine this session any other way.
I love when my families come back to me for their milestone sessions! This family had an adorable fall session last year, and now their little man is getting ready to turn ONE! So I was super excited to make some portraits at Jenkins Estate for them in celebration!
That shirt!! I loved it! We did a mustache theme for my son's first birthday too. Add in a fabulous pun: Mr. ONEderful??? #favoriteshirt
