Colby and Taylor's Cape Kiwanda Engagement Session in Pacific City, Oregon | Hillsboro Wedding Photographer
They got engaged at the top of the tallest sand dune in Pacific City, so it was only fitting that we'd head to Cape Kiwanda for Colby and Taylor's engagement session. Colby's family spent a lot of time in Pacific City as he was growing up, and it's a place they've both come to love. They introduced me to some of their very favorite spots as we hiked around the Cape. I loved seeing their adventurous spirit and genuine love for each other during this session--at one point Taylor said that Colby was "basically a billy goat" when he wasn't in dress clothes, and then he just totally casually mentioned that he'd CLIMBED THE ROCK WALL BEHIND US! Like no big deal, just scaling rock walls above the ocean. I can say with total certainty that I've never been out somewhere and been like, Oh, that GIANT WALL OF ROCK?? I've climbed that. So I am completely in awe of these two beautiful adventurous spirits and I cannot WAIT for their winery wedding coming up this spring. I'm certain they're going to bring the magic to it. Enjoy your engagement photos, you two!
Today is another 2017 recap day--this time, we're checking out part TWO of my favorite photos from 2017 family photo sessions! I'm starting with a few more favorites from sessions at Champoeg in Newberg (Barns! Pink tulle skirts! All of my favorite things!)
This extended family photo session in Hillsboro at Rood Bridge Park was so fun--this family brought their BRAND NEW PUPPY!! Those kids are the HAPPIEST kids!
This maternity session in Aloha at Cooper Mountain had one energetic little girl so we spent tons of time playing in the field.
And then it was FALL! Would you believe this was also Cooper Mountain Nature Park?? What a difference a few weeks and a different trail can make! Loved all the fall vibes in this family session!
This session! This sweet family introduced me to their favorite neighborhood park in Hillsboro, which just so happened to be BEAUTIFUL! And look at that tiny brand new baby! Loved this family!
This family was ready to play and have fun at their fall family session at Jenkins Estate in Beaverton. So many fall colors!
We even found some fall colors in the orchard at Champoeg for this sweet family session in Newberg!
This family is my FAVORITE! We've done a lot of sessions together (and their wedding!), but this was definitely the COLDEST so far! They hung in there and we got some super cozy family photos for their holiday cards!
And one last favorite at my favorite spot with a sweet family and their PUPPY!
Thank you all so much for allowing me to serve your families with a fun session and beautiful photos! I love each of your families so much! Here's to a fabulous 2018 family portrait season!
J+A Engagement Session at Champoeg State Park in Newberg | Newberg and Hillsboro Wedding Photographer
Jenna and Armando kicked off engagement session season last weekend and it was PERFECT!! We'd waited a few weeks to get dry weather, and just before Valentine's Day, it happened!! We went to Champoeg State Park because these two are practically neighbors with me here in Newberg and this beautiful location was five minutes from our front doors! We started in the field, then headed to the tree-lined path that used to be a street in the original pioneer townsite at Champoeg. Then we ended at this beautiful spot with trees that had glowy Spanish moss.
Look at this perfect field we found!! It's tough to find this tall, wispy grass like this in the winter here in Oregon, but it happened and it totally looked perfect with Jenna's white tulle skirt!
The absolute best part of this session--they brought their GIANT ST. BERNARD!!! AHHHH! Look at how big and fluffy and drooly he is!!! He tolerated the photo session and I fell 100% in love with him. My clients have been bringing their dogs to sessions so much lately and I LOVE it!
Mommy and daughter photos are always my favorite.
Jenna and Armando, I am so excited for your wedding this year! Thank you for sharing your adorable family with me and letting me get all those puppy cuddles in!
Yep, it's FEBRUARY and I'm just now doing my "Best Of 2017" posts, but....let's just roll with it. I've been catching up on blogging my 2017 weddings for most of January, so I wanted to take a quick break from my beautiful couples and highlight some of my favorite FAMILY sessions that happened in 2017! I'm starting with some of my favorites from spring and summer! First, this session with the most magical light ever at Rood Bridge Park in Hillsboro--one of my favorite local spots for a forest session!
We bought our first house and moved to NEWBERG in the spring of 2017, so I invited clients out to explore Champoeg State Park with me and fell in LOVE with this beautiful location.
One of my wedding couples from 2016 invited me to their home for a NEWBORN session which was just the sweetest! And PS: seeing prints of my photos on clients walls is the BEST feeling!
Spring was THE time to see favorite past clients! I've photographed this sweet family a few times now, and this time I got to meet grandma and grandpa too!
Springtime was for wildflowers and pretty dresses at Cooper Mountain Nature Park:
I also made it out to Cannon Beach for a few sessions in the summertime, which is ALWAYS worth it!
And just as summer started to turn to fall--this adorable family session at Champoeg with HAY BALES, the barn, and picket fences, so, literally all of my favorite things!
Next up is part two of my 2017 family photo session season: FALL PORTRAITS! Prepare yourselves for fall colors, crunchy leaves, and cozy sweaters!
It's been quiet over here this last month on the blog, but not in real life--we had Camille and Michael's Troutdale House wedding over Thanksgiving weekend, then December was spent editing that wedding and doing all that fun end-of-year stuff for the business. This month, I've been revamping the Bridal Guide (2018 brides--keep an eye on your mail box next week!!), and that means going through all of my galleries from the year to pull my favorite photos. While I was doing that, I found some photos that my second photographers took of me IN ACTION that I thought I'd share. This is how much I love you. I'm starting with this one, which was technically 2016, but it is me shooting Emily and Ryan's wedding FOUR WEEKS after having my second baby. I'm also rocking flats on a rainy day, which I DO NOT ADVISE. The California (read: denial of rainwear) in me is strong, but after this, I've been on the lookout for rainy wedding day shoes that actually cover my whole foot.
The next wedding of the season was Lacey and Taylor's Camp Turnaround wedding, where my second photographer Halsey took this photo of me doing the EXACT SAME MOVE that I did at Emily and Ryan's wedding. Apparently, I always want you to get closer together for photos. Always.
Most of my summer weddings chose not to have a second photographer (did you know that was an option? I love making it super easy to customize your wedding package so you only pay for what you need at your wedding), so that means you don't get to see me balancing on a steep hill at Horning's Hideout to get Lindsey and Adam's bridal party portraits with the lake in the background, or kneeling on a dock to get Kate and Dustin's paddleboat exit. Sorry, friends.
In the fall, I headed to the Tillamook forest for Lauren and Corey's wedding, where I probably just could have stood between these picnic tables, but instead chose to lean awkwardly over the bench, letting the corner of it jab into my leg. Because I'm graceful that way. PS: Lauren and Corey's adorable dogs were star guests at this wedding, and I think this is the moment the puppies greeted their newly married owners after the ceremony.
At Shellie and Kevin's McMenamin's Grand Lodge wedding, Halsey got me doing more awkward leaning, and then a photo demonstrating that I do occasionally JUST STAND NORMALLY.
At the last wedding of the year, Sarah photographed me at as I did bridal details. Can we please discuss how beautiful Camille's dress was?
I hope you enjoyed some of the behind the scenes of what it looks like for me as I shoot a wedding. It was a fabulous year!
You remember Lauren and Corey's forest engagement session with their sweet dogs, right? I knew their wedding would be just as fun and relaxed--it was in the forest with their dogs too! Lauren and her bridesmaids got ready at McMenamin's Grand Lodge, and I met them there for some photos before we made the drive out to their ceremony site.
The ceremony and reception were at Smith Homestead in the Tillamook Forest, which was in a BEAUTIFUL little clearing in the forest, along the river. After their ceremony, they had a champagne toast and confetti toss, which in my opinion, is the ABSOLUTE BEST way to celebrate just getting MARRIED!!
After that, Lauren's dad presented Corey with his TOP SECRET BBQ recipe, since he was now an official part of the family!
Then we headed into the forest for a little walk with the bridal party. I loved how relaxed the whole day was, because Lauren and Corey put plenty of time into their timeline to do things like "walk around the forest with our best friends". #weddinggoals, people. I love them, and I love the images we created during this time.
Back at the Homestead, the reception guests had arrived and it was time for more FUN! Lawn games were set up in the clearing, and indoors, there was a candy bar, bundt cakes for the wedding cake, and this adorable instax camera for the guest book. I love how much thought Lauren and Corey gave to creating a super unique and FUN wedding for their guests! Love you two---and congratulations!!
The week of catching up on wedding blogs continues!! Next up is Kailey and Andrew's wedding in St. Helens. Their engagement session at Champoeg State Park was super fun and I was so excited for their big day! They started the day by getting ready at a family friend's house, where they had their first look in the backyard. We did a few portraits there before everyone headed to the Elks Lodge for the ceremony and reception.
I loved Kailey's dress! The sheer cape was such a fun, sweet way to soften her whole look!
The groom's expression when he first sees his bride is ALWAYS my favorite!
The ombre cake from Just a Dash Cakes was so pretty!
Congratulations, Kailey and Andrew!
Pink and gold! AHHH! My favorites! There was so much fun sparkly details to this wedding! From the fabulous pink and gold cake to the gold sequined tablecloths--I knew when Lindsey told me about these colors that I HAD to photograph this wedding! Pink and gold were my wedding colors when I got married in 2010, and as you can see from my website--they're STILL my favorite colors! I mean, life is always better with a little gold sparkle, right??
Their details were all just so perfect--and the beautiful florals that Lindsey's friend designed were so pretty!
The ceremony was in the afternoon on the stage at Horning's Hideout, which meant we had a beautiful sunny glow coming through the trees behind them.
I loved how they had a separate table set aside up front for their sand ceremony. It was super easy for everyone to see (and for me to take photos!). And obviously, I think it goes without saying that I loved that sparkly gold tablecloth.
This pink and gold cake from Reedville Catering!! I'm ALL about it! The confetti style decoration on the top plus the pink and white polka dots on the bottom are EVERYTHING!
Portrait time with these two was super quick, but with the glow coming through the trees by the lake and Lindsey and Adam being basically pros after their Oregon City engagement session, they totally rocked it! Look at how adorable they are!!
Lindsey and Adam, it has been so fun getting to know you over the last year. Your wedding was so beautiful--here's to a beautiful marriage ahead of you!
Sorry, friends. I obviously fell down on blogging this winter! I tend to post weddings right away on Facebook and then dive into editing to get my couples their wedding photos back quickly, but I know they're waiting for their blog posts too! I'm doing some catching up this week, and I'm so excited to share Shellie and Kevin's beautiful fall wedding at McMenamin's Grand Lodge in Forest Grove!
Shellie's entrance to the wedding was down an iron staircase from the Children's Cottage down to the ceremony at the Sequoia Grove. Her daughter met her at the bottom of the stairs and walked her down the aisle.
Once Shellie met Kevin at the front of the ceremony site--they waited, and waited, until Kevin's brother stood up from the front row and walked up to them to MARRY THEM! This was a total surprise they had planned, and it was such a sweet surprise for Kevin's mom!
Then we had some portrait time in seriously the most MAGICAL light EVER.
This bouquet!! It was so beautiful! And I loved the rustic barnwood elements in the reception--always my favorite!
Congratulations, Shellie and Kevin!! This was a BEAUTIFUL wedding!
If you follow me on Facebook, you've seen photos from Camille and Michael's fabulous Thanksgiving-weekend wedding at Troutdale House, but I just realized I never shared them here!! What??? I blame the holidays.
Camille and Michael both got ready on different levels of the venue, but didn't want to see each other before the ceremony. However, they knew that just speaking to each other would calm their nerves, so they planned a different kind of first look! Camille's bridesmaids and mom got her ready, then Michael's groomsmen led him blindfolded up the stairs to the bridal suite, where Camille stood one one side of the curtain. Michael stood on the other side of the curtain, and they held hands, letting each of them calm the other one just with that small gesture.
Michael's reaction when his bride came down the aisle was one of the SWEETEST I've seen in my years of photographing weddings.
We did portraits on the new deck, since it was a rainy day, but we also took a moment during the reception for a quick rainy photo, and I'm so glad they did!
Speaking of the reception--this was a fun one!! Camille and Michael are square dancers, and their reception reflected how much they love to dance! From special dances with grandparents to an epic conga line, these two brought it in the dancing department! Their reception wrapped up with a fun exit--loved the energy this sweet couple had! Congratulations, Camille and Michael!
